Preparing the canvas: |
Actually, many eye makeup mistakes start before the first brush is even picked up.
Here are the ground rules that are key to success: |
1)
Start with beautifully and naturally shaped eyebrows. They will open up not only the eye area, but also your whole face. (See our article "Wow Brows" for a refresher course in the perfect brow |
2) Prepare the lid and brow area by applying a
thin coat of foundation. This acts as a base for the shadow, helping it to last and minimize creasing |
3)
If you are using a cream formula shadow, prepare the area with a layer of concealer rather than foundation, and setting it with a dusting of powder once the shadow is applied. |
4)
If you are using a pencil, never apply it directly to eyelid. Instead make a small circle on your hand, and then apply it with your fingertips or a brush. |
5)
Darker shades are used on the parts of the eye you wish to recede, lighter shades on the regions you wish to bring forward. |
6)
Liner is applied only after your shadow is set with mascara being the final step |

Getting in shape: Properly applied, makeup can redefine or enhance any eye shape. The shades you use: lightest for highlight, darkest for emphasis, medium for most coverage, must all be in the
same family: you never want to look as though you are wearing three separate colors. The shape of your eye determines where exactly each tone is applied. |
